Mau Mau

Mau Mau brings the world-famous card classic to the table with fast matching play, clear rules and a deck of 110 cards. Each round begins with 5 cards per player and a face-up starting card beside the draw pile, so the action starts at once as colours and numbers have to match from turn to turn. The deck combines 72 number cards with 38 special cards and 6 colour change cards, giving each hand more than one way to shift the round. Direction cards reverse the order of play, STOP cards skip the next turn, and draw cards force the following player to take extra cards. A colour change card can be placed regardless of the previous card and sets the colour for the next move. When the draw pile runs out, the played stack is reshuffled except for the top card, so the game can continue without interruption. A game lasts around 20 minutes. The result is a lively card game for 2-6 players aged 6+ that suits short rounds at the kitchen table, holiday packing lists and repeat matches across an evening. Calling "mau" on the second-last card and "mau mau" on the final card adds a small ritual to the closing stretch, while the point tally across several rounds supports longer sessions with the same group.
